Here is part of an e-mail taken from a person who
knows about the Derbyshire Inter-League.
There is one season of inter-league every calendar year. We typically have 10 or 12 teams in
the inter-league, so we just play each-other once per season, and then there is also a
cup competition which is usually run at a single venue but spread over two separate Sundays.
At the moment league matches are played on a "home and away" basis (we operate a two-year cycle,
so if you are at home to team x in year 1, you will be away to them in year 2), but there
is a growing movement at the moment for these to be made "central venue" as well. I'll
explain more about how this would work later on.
Matches are scheduled for the last Sunday of every month, except where that is a bank holiday
or there is a clash with a Derbyshire inter-county match, so you'd be looking at your first
match being the last Sunday in January. Start-times are 7pm, although when a long journey
is involved the teams often talk to each-other and agree to begin a little earlier.
The playing rules are full 'World' rules. This is dictated to us by the English Pool
Association, as Inter-league is a national competition, not just a Derbyshire one.
The top performing teams in both the cup and league qualify for the national finals
weekend at Great Yarmouth, cup national finals in October of the same year and league
national finals in April of the following year. By right, Derbyshire gets 2 places,
however in practice I have managed to secure us 4 spots eight out of nine times thus far,
and three the other time.
We are allowing about four weeks to get this organised. If you are interested here is a form
to download and please return to Steve Cooper as soon as possible.
